The Board of Education held a public hearing regarding the resolution to exceed the revenue neutral tax rate for the upcoming school year. The session primarily focused on public comments from community members concerned about the increasing property tax burden, the school district's debt levels, and the overall budget process. Speakers urged the Board to exercise fiscal discipline, consider cutting non-essential projects, and attempt to align budget increases more closely with the Consumer Price Index. The Board and administration explained that budget increases are driven by rising costs for maintenance, facilities, food service, personnel salaries, and transportation, particularly the increased cost of diesel fuel.
